Working Document On Women’s Human Rights in Christian Belief Systems

This working document was produced by BAOBAB for Women's Human Rights, a WELDD partner organisation in Nigeria.  One area in which BAOBAB’s work has been very prominent and for which it has received international recognition and award, is the protection and promotion of women’s rights in religious laws. As such, BAOBAB is committed to promoting debates on religious laws and/or policy documents which might adversely impact on the rights of women.

The aim of this working document is to look at various aspects of women’s human rights and how biblical verses or quotations have been interpreted by society in such a way that it either promotes the rights of women or negates it. Each thematic area represents an aspect of women’s human rights that has been subject to debate both by religious interpretation and social norms and practices.
